Improve Your Memory With Puzzle Brain Games

By Donna Deacon

Your body gets stronger when you use it and weaker when you don't use it. If you run every day or work out then your body will be strong. If you sit around the house all day and don't exercise than your body will be comparatively weak. Your brain and mind is the same way. The more you exercise it the stronger it will be. The more it is neglected the weaker it will be. Here are some ways to keep your mind strong and entertained.

The old staple gain for keeping the mind sharp and in shape is the crossword puzzle. It is like the push-up for the brain. Do one or two of these each day in your brain and memory function will be strong. The crossword puzzle forces your brain to memorize vocabulary and forces you to think analytically. Furthermore, as you complete a crossword puzzle you are keeping in short-term memory all of the questions and possible answers that you are trying to solve. For example you tried 22 down but you're not sure what the answer is so you go to 45 across. But as you're doing 45 across you're still thinking about 22 down. You could be juggling 4 to 5 questions in your short-term memory at any given time while you're doing a crossword puzzle. That's powerful exercise for the brain.

If crossword puzzles are the right hook, then an effective left jab to follow up is a sudoku puzzle. Sudoku is a numbers game and will work out your brain a little differently than the crossword puzzle. Your short-term memory will get a good workout by keeping a lot of information about how to complete the puzzle and it. Likewise your brain will be forced to analyze, compute, and provides loose ends.

Try and do one of each of these puzzles each day to keep your mind in good health. It's not a good idea to start with the puzzles that you find in the New York Times or the Washington Post. These puzzles are expert level and are extremely difficult to complete. Start with beginning level puzzles and work your way up.

So, what are you waiting for. Get rolling with increasing your brain power immediately. - 31955
